Hear Me Roar Quietly

What draws our interest? What events, thoughts, and observations capture our attention and ultimately, do those interests define who we are?

I am an older, well-off, third-generation Caucasian male. I grew up in Rogers Park, Chicago, the son of a middle-class family. I earned two college degrees, got married, built a career, and now live in an upscale neighborhood north of the city. But in today’s cultural landscape, I don’t fit into any recognized identity group. I am not a minority, poor, LGBTQ+, an immigrant, or disadvantaged.

As a result, I often feel invisible.

I ask only to be judged on who I am and what I’ve accomplished not by a collection of checkboxes on a form. I have a voice. Hear me.
